Fernandes was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Maddison late in the first half of the Premier League clash against Tottenham at Old Trafford on Sunday, which United went on to lose 3-0.

The midfielder went on to protest that the foul was "never a red card" after the game and United subsequently appealed against the decision. The Football Association (FA) has now confirmed that he will not have to serve a suspension.

Fernandes' red card, which was the third of the 30-year-old's career, meant he was to be suspended for his team's matches against Aston Villa, Brentford and West Ham, but he will be available for head coach Erik ten Hag after the FA's decision.
